Djibouti to Lac Assal

Lake Assal is a crater lake located in the Danakil Desert in central Djibouti, surrounded by dormant volcanoes and black lava fields that contrast with its emerald waters. At more than 153 meters below sea level, it holds the distinction of being the lowest point in Africa. The lake’s wet section contains extremely salty water fed by hot springs, while the dry section features a white salt bed formed from evaporated lake water over the years.
